Heavy Rain: Where Is It?

News out of Paris GDC is that French developer Quantic Dream is still working on their PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain, which prompts the question: when will it be done?

These are the people who made Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy and as far as I'm concerned they can't release a new game fast enough. Lead developer David Cage is still involved in Heavy Rain, so it's almost certain to be a game worth seeing.

The game debuted with an impressive tech demo at E3 2006 which famously featured an uncanny-valley-esque lead actress. Quantic reported that same year that they'd halted production on their sequel to Omikron: The Nomad Soul in order to focus exclusively on Heavy Rain.

Between this and Alan Wake, it's seeming like all the games I'm most excited about are stuck in development limbo.

My most anticipated titles at the moment are Alan Wake, Heavy Rain and whatever Fumito Ueda/Team ICO's new project is.

Too bad all three games are way off yet, then. REALLY hoping we see more at E3 in a few weeks.

Yeah, that trinity might finally be enough to make me get a PS3.

That statement suggests that Alan Wake is coming to the PS3, so, is it or am I right when I say that it's a 360 exclusive?

I don't care either way (in fact I'd prefer it if more games were multiplatform) but if it's coming to PS3 then it is news to me.

I agree, however. The PS3 as a purchase isn't justified for me just yet and while it's a lot more enticing now thanks to MGS 4, EchoCrome and a few other tidbits, I think I can still wait until Heavy Rain and Team ICO's next game are around too. Oh and the full version of Gran Turismo 5, but then that's because I'm a racing freak.

You're right, at this stage Alan Wake is a 360 exclusive (I'd thoughgt it was cross-platform 360 and PS3).

My tongue was mostly in my cheek when I said I'd want to get a PS3; the only two games I really feel like I'm missing on that system are MGS4 and Heavenly Sword.

I'm curious as to what your interest with Heavenly Sword is.

Don't get me wrong, it looks like a fairly decent game but not something that would sell a console, if you know what I mean about that. Then again, I did list EchoCrome as one of my incentives for buying the console...

Anyway after experiencing what it was/is like to own the 3 consoles from last gen, I can't go back to only owning one (or two) in this generation so I will definitely be getting a Wii and PS3 in the future. As I said before, the PS3 needs a few more games before I bite the bullet but I am happy to wait and focus on my 360 in the meantime.

Really looking forward to E3 (even though the show is shit these days) as I'm expecting that Heavy Rain and Team ICO's project will be there, if not Alan Wake too.

Played Heavenly Sword at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show and it was like sweet gaming candy. I realise that it didn't sell well but I'm still unreasonably eager to have the entire game at my command.

Damn, you went to TGS? Nice man, colour me green with envy.

I was meant to go this year, too, but circumstances conspired against me. Maybe next time?

TGS was awesome; I have blog posts about it in the September 2006 archives here.

I might have to sneak into one of your suitcases the next time you go, since we're both in Canberra and all.
