Great Gaming Music #19: Bubble Bobble

Bubble Bobble may not have the most powerfully moving soundtrack in gaming history, but considering that it storms through a hundred levels using only a single 45-second loop of sound, the fact that it doesn't drive players screaming from their computers is a minor musical miracle. In fact, I often find myself humming this even when not attempting to trap critters in floating bubbles.

Featured above is the theme from Bubble Bobble as it appears in the Amiga version of the game.

This version is bad and you should feel bad.

I'll hear not a word against the Amiga. It is king among computers and all other difference engines bow in its presence.

Then there's the Hillbilly version.
Somehow this found its way to my local community radio station.

I always envied my friend's Amiga.

That thing made my ears bleed, Jon. Never show that to a living human again. I believe there are ancient texts that one can use for binding away things of this ilk.

Jeez, I thought it was hysterical. Guess that makes me Nyarlathotep or something.

It was hysterical in the sense of "induces hysteria". I can see why it might make you laugh, but it would be the feverish and demented laughter of the damned, surely?
