Second Seasons

[TV]

Just picked up season 2 of Deadwood and of Battlestar Galactica on DVD. And I understand the second seasons of Lost and Carnivale are also about to debut in a purchasable format. Huzzah. Now if only I can see those last three episodes of season 2 new Doctor Who, I'll be set. It's a good time to be interested in genre second seasons, I guess.

Speaking of which, if you travelled back in time, say, five years, and found a sci-fi fan, and told them that the future of genre TV would consist largely of two westerns, a castaway medical-drama-meets-X-Files, and new, successful resurrections of Battlestar and Who, do you think they'd have believed you - or just punched you in the mouth?

Both.

But then again, we do know better now don't we?

I mean sometimes when it's announced that newer versions of classic and cult shows are to be released there is always a kind of nervous waiting going on. Will it be any good? Will it hold up against the obvious scrutiny that exists? Can we get anyone that will do the main roles justice?

I personally love the new Doctor Who and although i do not get to catch it much on tv due to that thing called work commitments, I have now got the DVD's for last years series and am currently building my collection with the current doctor (volume 2 comes out on DVD tomorrow according to the sleeve in my volume one).

I am taking quiet a liking to David Tenant being the Doctor though. He is kinda hot.

Am i allowed to say that?

BTW: If they took a swing at me, I'd just punch them back and kill them...... fun all around and in the end, I win.

Yes, I think you are allowed to say that David Tennant is hot. The incredible success of new Doctor Who seems to largely consist of a) mostly pleasing the existing fanbase, and b) pimping out the Doctor as a taut-buttocked man-ho to females throughout the world. Oh, the humanity.

LOL. Yeah too true.

He is one hot Doctor.

Although I wouldn't mind to know your thoughts on the current Doctor and his assistant which is played by and ex pop star.

Personally shes not too bad, but shes leaving at the end of the current season so I'm not getting attatched.

I've seen those last three episodes :p
If you need help obtaining them, let me know. Depends on how long your usual guy will be.
What is the other western you're referring to?

p.s Yes the current Doctor is hot

When I talked of two westerns, I was referring, obviously, to Deadwood, and somewhat less obviously to Carnivale, which for all its 1930s dustbowl charm is still a white-hat/black-hat showdown in a land filled with both possibility and despair (in short, a western).

Billie Piper is perfectly fine as a companion, but she's not hot in the same way that, say, Romana, Nyssa, or Ace were at the time that I first saw them on TV.

Jess, I might prevail on you for those episodes to tide me over until the last DVD comes out (by which time they will have aired on free-to-air TV).

Thanks Jess,

I'm not the only who things that.

Hazzah.

Lel, if you think you're alone in that you seriously need to come to a sci-fi convention and see the hordes of screaming fangirls gushing about how sexy "Nine" is, or how cute "Ten" is, or, in the horrific worst case scenario, the possibilities of Nine/Ten slash.

I'd do Billie

Andy's given me a burner, so once that's installed and I've some cds I'll copy 'em for you.
As you're planning on buying them later I'll get 'em back off you and I can give 'em to my bro.
Spread the sci-fi love I say!

Wait, we're talking real life standards now, not TV standards? Someone should have told me.

Um, yes, CDs would be lurvely. You should bring them Friday, if you're able, or otherwise drop round and visit before I take off to Japan and Perth. (Did I mention I'm off to Japan next month?) 8-)

when you leaving?
hopefully I can get them to you by then...

I don't know if I'd do Billie, I meant I'd do Rose...Billie just sounds cooler though

Greg, have set up the page to allow comments, as suggested.
Perhaps you could add this to your blog roll?
Cheers, Jess

Have you seen the BBC webpage for Dr Who.... its got a pic of the new assistant.... and the Doctor has a blue suit. I liked the brown one better.

Here's hoping the new assistant is going to be as good as Rose hey?

Just got an email from a girl i know in the UK who was talking about the end of season 2 of Dr Who.

She said and i quote:

'Best to keep the tissues handy for the last episode.'

She wouldn't go into much detail and i am currently trying to not look it up on the net so not to spoil it.

Greg Tannahill said...

That accords with what I heard. But surely all these people are just soppy; Doctor Who couldn't be THAT sad, could it?

I don't really know. She just said to keep the tissues handy.

And i dont think shes a softie, but bah, i'm not quite sure.
